SUBJECT: Jacqui's Family Letter | Jan. 27

January 27, 2020

Dear Families,

Last Monday, in the very cold weather, David and I took some time to wander through the Green Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn with our oldest daughter. We spent an hour looking for the grave of the inventor of the hotdog-inside-a-bun concept, Charles Feltman. Really. And guess what? There is some scandal in the history of Feltman vs. Nathan's. Look it up! Who knew?

It could be because we are educators, but many of our family outings have the feel of a field trip. Our goals are simply to learn, to be surprised, and to want to know more. While I may not be researching the hotdog scandal any further, I will be sure to read about the history of the beautiful Green Wood Cemetery.

This is the gift we hope to give our students at 75 Morton. The urge to ask questions, dig deeper, push further into a topic, and possibly start a longer journey of exploration that may lead to something more in life. I highly suggest wandering through Green Wood Cemetery. There are the famous and the not-famous buried there -  so many life stories, and inspirations.

How lucky we are to live in NYC. There is so much to learn right here, and just a subway ride away.

Case in point - this spring break students can apply to attend exciting, free enrichment programs with STEM Matters NYC. A wide range of programs are offered citywide. Students will meet and work with field experts in programs that feature real-world learning experiences. The application deadline is Monday, February 10.

With Respect,

Jacqui
