Dear Families,
I absolutely check email too often. I intentionally “forget†my phone at home on weekends, relying on David to carry his phone. It drives me crazy to see a school related email and not check it and respond immediately. Clearly not a healthy way to live, although I suspect many of you are similar in your habits.
My happiest weekend days are when I cannot reach for my phone.
When I do check in, I often get the sweetest surprises. Those moments are when your children email me directly with a question or comment or idea. These are so often funny, touching, inspiring, and informative.
I love when the emails start with, “Hey, Jacqui…†I love when the emails end with, “When can we talk?†I love when I get to respond and say, “Please find me first thing tomorrow and we will figure this out.†Your children remind me of the reason we work to build community and agency among our students.
The most important gift our children need to get from their many years in school is to know that they are OWED the opportunity to learn how to learn. They are OWED the time, resources, and space to explore, question, and connect ideas. Their emails remind me to work harder.
And speaking of sweet moments, the 7th grade dance, the Snow Ball, is coming up on Thursday, February 13. To keep the children happy and safe we need many more 7th grade parents to come and chaperone/monitor the hallways. Please sign up to help here. We can't do it without you!
With Respect,
Jacqui
