SUBJECT: 75 Morton PTA Newsletter - 9/16/22

What an amazing first full week of school!  The hallways are buzzing with excited kiddos, out lunch for some has started, field trips are being finalized and our October calendar is already getting booked with community events like Fright Night! But before we get ahead of ourselves we have a few very important September events coming up.

CURRENT NEWS
1st PTA Meeting 9/21 8:50am

Please join us at this years first PTA meeting!  This meeting will be a hybrid event.  Zoom for those who can't make it into the building.  Meet Principal Valerie and her amazing administrative staff, hear about all of the exciting ways you can get involved.  

We will also be holding a special expedited election for: 

  • 2 PTA members at large positions (for new families only)
  • 1 School Leadership Team seat (for new families only)
  • PTA Treasurer or Co-Treasurer (open to any member)

Prior registration for those who will be joining us virtually through Zoom is required for this meeting.  Please register here.  Once your info has been verified you will receive the Zoom link address.

NYC’s DOE Budget does not cover 100% of the school’s operating budget. Through contributions from our families, the PTA raises and funds the portion of the budget that helps set our school apart from others. And we need your help, now more than ever, to ensure we rebuild the breadth of enrichment programs, activities, resources and equipment that creates for our kids the magical experience of our amazing school.

Govenors Island Field Trips!

Each grade will be going on field trip to Governors Island.  

Wednesday, September 21st is for 7th grade.

Thursday, September 22nd is for 6th grade.

Friday, September 23rd is for the 8th grade.

Please fill out the permission slip allowing your student to attend.

And we need YOU to help chaperone!

For returning students:

Make sure you locate your students' school ID from last year so they can use it for this upcoming year. 

If the majority of 7th have their IDs it will allow the "Out Lunch" privilege to begin earlier for this grade. 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
No School 9/26 & 9/27

In observance of Rosh Hashanah there is no school on Monday & Tuesday, September 26th & 27th.  Students and teachers return on Wednesday, September 28th.

Join Heyman Family Programs at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) for free onsite programs/activities. Check out free resources for families onsite, including audio guides for kids, kids labels in English and Spanish, an activity guide, and the programs below.


Explore This! Latin American Artists

Sat, Sep 24, 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Bring your family and discover the artwork of contemporary artists from Brazil, Colombia, and El Salvador through drawing, movement activities, and games. Choose the artworks and activities that interest your family and move at your own pace. Activity prompts are available in English and Spanish. Recommended for kids ages six and up.

The Heyman Family Art Lab 

Fridays-Sundays from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 

In this drop-in space, kids and adults can draw, work with wire, design emoji, engage in light-box play, and more. All ages are welcome. Free with museum admission.
